How I Found Out About It: Goodreads

Review: This was a pretty funny and light read (you can tell by the title😝), and I really liked it! Basically what happens in this story is that a high school girl named Payton’s dad gets diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), and she starts having trouble focusing in class since she is worried about him. She starts to talk to her school counsellor about it, and she gives her the assignment of choosing a focus object to help her concentrate. It could have been a squishy toy, an eraser, anything at all, but after contemplating what her object would be, she notices the head of Sean, the guy whom has sat in front of her in class for years, but doesn’t really know. She is mesmerized by his cool hair, and thus she chooses his head as her focus object! Interesting, right? Because of that, she then starts to develop feelings for him since he’s always in her mind, and that’s where the story picks up! I thought Payton was a quirky and funny character. She was very creative to think out of the box and choose Sean’s head to focus on, and I know that I wouldn’t even come close to thinking of that if I was in her shoes! She was very nice as well, and always treated everyone with respect, even if that time in her life wasn’t necessarily the best. Her friend Jac though… I’m not sure how I feel about her, to be honest. She was very pushy towards Payton and really wanted her and Sean to get together, so she did some not so nice things (you’ll see what they are when you read the book!) that caused a fight between them. She was pretty loyal though, and by doing those things, she only meant the best, even if it didn’t turn out that way. Sean was very adventurous, and when he and Payton did start talking, he really took her out of her comfort zone and got her into biking, out of which she found a great new hobby! I really enjoyed reading Payton’s progress notes that appeared a lot in the book, they tended to be just so hilarious and cute! I would recommend this book to any older tween or teen looking for a spontaneous, light romance read that isn’t too gushy, relatable characters, and a great laugh!
