How I Found Out About It: Goodreads

Review: This was quite the interesting, captivating book! I loved the writing style right from the start. It was just so unique, there was so much voice, and it really sounded like a teenager! I loved that the book was supposed to be a ‘creative non-fiction story’ that the main character was writing for school, the author seemed to really put on her thinking cap when writing this! The plot was so creative as well! Basically, the protagonist, Normandy, and three of her friends create a club called “The Truth Commission” (hence the name of the book) to learn about some of the secrets lurking around their school. Many of the students approached by members of the club found it easy and comforting to open up to them, and found out more about themselves by doing it.  On the other hand, Normandy’s older sister Kiera is a popular graphic novelist, and when she comes back from her prestigious university, she seems very miserable and refuses to open up to anyone. Normandy knew something was up, but she could not get her sister to spill until late in the book. I won’t spoil what was wrong with Kiera, or the secrets of the kids at Normandy’s school. That’s up to you to find out yourself by reading this book! Everything about it is so distinct and unlike anything I’ve ever read before! In addition to the story and the writing, I absolutely adored the little drawings on some of the pages, some of them were so cute! Most books for young adults do not incorporate illustrations inside of them, and that’s what makes this one so exquisite! I would totally recommend this book to teens (anyone younger probably wouldn’t understand it) or older, as it will definitely suck you in!
